Vernon House, Rowsley

Built in 1809 and carefully renovated in 2020, Vernon House combines historic character with modern comfort. This beautiful holiday house in the Peak District is ideal for family gatherings, larger groups or smaller groups who appreciate having plenty of space and separate bedrooms. Located in Rowsley, it makes an excellent base for exploring Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Bakewell and the wider Peak District.

The house retains many original features, including beamed ceilings, traditional shutters, sash windows and wood-burning stove. Outside, the impressive garden provides a wonderful space to relax and enjoy the surroundings, while inside you will find thoughtful twenty-first-century comforts and stylish design.

The fully equipped kitchen is perfect for preparing meals to enjoy together, whether you are dining al fresco in the garden or gathering around the dining table. Vernon House has four proper bedrooms and comfortably accommodates up to eight guests. A separate attic room with a day bed can provide sleeping space for up to two additional guests; please note that guests staying in this room need to pass through it to access one of the bedrooms, so it offers less privacy than the other bedrooms.

From its position in the charming village of Rowsley, you are well placed to discover the Peak District — from Chatsworth and Haddon Hall to Bakewell and the many walking routes and attractions nearby.

Getting around

Vernon House is particularly convenient for groups arriving in more than one car, with private parking for several cars behind the gate. There are walking and cycling routes right on the doorstep, while the surrounding roads make it easy to explore the Peak District by car. Matlock Bath, Bakewell, Baslow and Sheffield are all within easy reach.

For walkers, Haddon Hall is around a 30-minute walk from the house, while the pretty village of Beeley is also within walking distance. If you're feeling energetic, you can even walk to Chatsworth.

For everyday essentials, the village shop and Post Office are directly opposite Vernon House. Next door, the Peak Village shopping centre is home to a many shops, Chatsworth Kitchen or cafe. You can browse shops selling local products, gift shops, or clothes.

There are also some excellent places to eat nearby. The Peacock, just across the road, offers a fine-dining experience, while Fischer's Baslow Hall and the Cavendish Hotel in Baslow are both around a 10-minute drive away. Grouse & Claret restaurant is a place suitable for relaxed meals featuring a playground for children.
